Part 4: Northwest Vietnam
 

 


Rice paddies at Sapa
Sapa an old hill station at an elevation of 1600 m in Northwest Vietnam near the border to China.

 

 


Our two guides during a hike to a village near Sapa belong to the minority of Black Hmong.

Black Hmong Vietnam has 54 minorities, the biggest variety can be found in the mountains of Northwest Vietnam. The name of the minority indicates often the color of the dress.

 

 


Red Dzao
The Dzao minorities are Chinese descendants.
 

Sapa offers good views to the mountains. The picture was taken late afternoon near our hotel "Auberge". Not far from Sapa is also the highest mountain Vietnams, the 3143 m high Fansipan.

 

 


Bac Ha
The Sunday market of Bac Ha (also close to the Chinese border) is a meeting place for many colorful Vietnamese minority people.

Flower Hmong (so called because the women embroider flowers on their dress) meet on the Sunday market of Bac Ha.
