Snow sculpture

The group photo shows us together with students from Harbin, who are learning
German language in Tianjin. The sculptures in the background are made of snow.
Ice Latern Festival
The main attraction of Harbin is the famous Ice Latern Festival in the Zhaolin
park from late December until early February. Fanciful sculptures are made of
ice in the shapes of animals, buildings or motifs taken from legends. The
sculptures are illuminated from inside during the night.
Disney
World in ice
Since a few years, a whole Disneyland-like "ice world" is built every
year on the shores of the Songhua river.
Entertainment
in subarctic conditions
Not everybody is as lucky as we and can visit the festival in such a mild period
(-15°C/5°F during daytime, -25°C/-13°F during night). Temperatures in
January can drop to -40°C/-40°F in this region not far from Siberia.
